The US State Department has informed Congress that approximately 5,000 Cuban soldiers are fighting on Moscow's side in the war between Russia and Ukraine.
Modern.az reports, citing Axios, that the Donald Trump administration informed the US Congress that Cuba sent up to 5,000 fighters to Russia to fight in the war against Ukraine, while also providing "diplomatic and political support to Moscow."
The State Department notes that even if the Cuban government did not officially do so, it knowingly allowed and facilitated the deployment of Cuban troops to Russia.
The report also states that Cuban citizens have become "one of the largest identifiable foreign fighter groups supporting Russia's military operations in Ukraine."
