President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met with Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan on August 31 within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Bishkek.
Modern.az reports that the leaders emphasized the historical significance of the Washington Peace Summit on August 8, 2025, the Joint Declaration signed by President Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan with the witnessing of US President Donald Trump, as well as the initialing of the agreed text of the "Agreement on the establishment of peace and interstate relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia".
The export of Azerbaijani oil products to Armenia, the transit of grain and other goods from third countries to Armenia through the territory of Azerbaijan, as well as the establishment of trade relations between the two countries were noted as important visible manifestations of peace dividends. The leaders also welcomed contacts between business circles and exchanged views on opportunities for further expansion of mutually beneficial economic, trade and energy cooperation.
The parties noted the important role of the relevant state commissions on the delimitation of the state border between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and emphasized the importance of their continuing their work in accordance with the agreements reached between the two countries.
The leaders discussed further practical steps related to the implementation of the "Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity" (TRIPP), one of the important results of the Washington Peace Summit, and noted the importance of connectivity projects along TRIPP.
The leaders noted the contributions of parliamentarians and civil society representatives to strengthening mutual trust and supporting a broader peace agenda, and positively evaluated confidence-building contacts with their participation.
President Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan agreed to continue steps towards further strengthening lasting peace, advancing the process of normalization of interstate relations and strengthening connections through direct bilateral contacts.
