A new stage has begun in the investigation into the sinking of the “Filo Jet” passenger ship with 267 people on board off the coast of Northern Cyprus.
Modern.az reports, citing Turkish media, that 9 people detained in connection with the accident have been brought before the Kyrenia District Court.
The ship's captain, 7 crew members, and an employee of the shipping company were brought before the court. Within the framework of the investigation, it is expected that statements will be taken from the detained persons and the technical aspects of the incident will be investigated.
According to reports in the Turkish media, there were also Azerbaijani citizens among the crew of the “Filo Jet”. They are reported to be Valeh Hummatov and Rashad Ibrahimov.
It should be recalled that there were 267 people on board the ship, including 259 passengers and 8 crew members. Shortly after leaving the port, the ship began to take on water from its bow and then capsized and sank to a depth of 514 meters. During the incident, 8 people were reported dead and 18 missing.
