António Costa stated that the interests of the US and the European Union are no longer aligned, and this situation poses serious risks for the EU.

It was reported that Costa, speaking at the EU leaders' meeting in Cyprus on April 23, warned that if the European Union fully follows the policies of the US administration, it could face a serious crisis and even disintegration.
He also emphasized that it is not right to transfer responsibility for making key decisions to Donald Trump.
According to sources, Costa cited Washington's actions regarding Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, US-Israeli military operations around Iran, and Trump's position on the Ukraine issue as examples of disagreements between the US and the EU.
Costa noted that the EU must formulate a more independent policy and organize itself strategically to protect its interests.
