At the direction of US President Donald Trump, the United States, together with Bahrain and its Persian Gulf partners - Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, and Qatar - has drafted a resolution on protecting freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

Modern.az reports that this was stated in a statement by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

The draft resolution demands that Iran provide information on the number and locations of the naval mines it has deployed, cooperate in efforts to neutralize them, and support the creation of a humanitarian corridor.

"The US looks forward to voting on this resolution in the coming days and hopes for the support of Security Council members and a broad range of co-sponsors," Rubio's statement said.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran continues to hold the global economy hostage with its attempts to close the Strait of Hormuz, threats to attack ships in the strait, the deployment of naval mines that pose a danger to shipping, and its desire to collect payment for passage through the world's most important waterway. The draft resolution demands that Iran cease attacks, mining, and the collection of transit fees," said Marco Rubio.
