Two people have died and several have been injured in an armed attack at a school in Rio Branco, northern Brazil.
Modern.az reports, citing foreign media, that the incident took place on May 5 at the “Instituto São José” school in the capital of Acre state. The person who opened fire at the school is reported to be a 13-year-old student. After the attack, the teenager was detained by the police and confessed to his involvement in the incident.
As a result of the armed attack, two women working at the school lost their lives. Another employee and a student were injured and taken to the hospital. Although local media reported that five people were injured, international agencies and official bodies have currently confirmed that two people died and at least two people were injured. Investigations into the exact number of injured are ongoing.
It was announced that the weapon used belonged to the teenager's legal representative. Local media writes that the owner of the weapon is his stepfather. He was also detained by the police. As part of the investigation, it is being investigated how the minor gained access to the weapon and whether the attack was premeditated.
