Armenia has acquired the Iranian-made AD-08 “Majid” short-range air defense system.
Modern.az reports that Armenia has become the first foreign operator of the aforementioned air defense complex.
According to information, the system was supplied within the framework of a secret $500 million arms deal signed between Iran and Armenia in July 2024.
It should be noted that the AD-08 “Majid” operates with an electro-optical and infrared target detection system, and since it uses minimum radar signals, it is considered difficult to detect. The AD-08 “Majid” system is designed to destroy drones, helicopters, and other low-altitude air targets. The complex also provides close-range defense against cruise missiles. The system detects air targets through electro-optical and infrared equipment, and can neutralize them by secretly tracking them without using radar. The AD-08 “Majid” has the ability to operate against several targets simultaneously. Since it is placed on a mobile platform, it allows for rapid position changes and creates operational air defense.
