The European Union (EU) is preparing to introduce a preferential trade regime for Armenia.
Modern.az, citing Armenian media, reports that a telephone conversation will take place between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen amid economic restrictions imposed by Russia. During the talks, mechanisms of support that the European Union will provide to Yerevan will be discussed.
According to the information, the EU is preparing to allocate financial assistance to official Yerevan and establish special preferential conditions in the trade sector in the face of Russia's economic pressure. This refers to Autonomous Trade Measures (ATM). Within the framework of this mechanism, certain types of goods produced in Armenia will be allowed to enter the European market duty-free and quota-free.
It should be noted that the European Union usually uses this economic tool in crisis situations to stabilize the economies of partner countries, demonstrate support for them, and accelerate their integration into the European market.
