With only a few days left until the FIFA World Championship hosted by North America, international experts have warned that the rapidly spreading Ebola epidemic could turn the tournament into a global health crisis.
Modern.az reports, citing foreign media, that in the epidemic that has begun to get out of control in Central Africa, the identities of more than 2,000 people who may have been exposed to the virus have not yet been determined. The main concern is the silent spread of the virus.
According to experts, the first symptoms of the Ebola virus are often confused with common flu or infection symptoms. A person infected with the virus can travel for days without feeling it. In their opinion, even a single infected fan entering a crowded stadium can pose a serious health threat in a tournament watched by millions of people.
It should be noted that the Democratic Republic of Congo, considered one of the main epicenters of the epidemic, is also among the countries participating in the World Championship.
Host countries, preparing to receive approximately 5.5 million fans, have already begun to implement emergency security measures at airports.
The US has recently imposed restrictions on the entry of foreign nationals who have been in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, or South Sudan in recent weeks. Canada has imposed a travel ban of at least 90 days for people coming from those countries.
It is reported that strict medical examinations will be carried out at the airports of all host countries during the tournament.
