Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi reacted harshly to the statements of Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, stating that if Lebanon were a "bargaining chip" for Tehran, an agreement would have been reached long ago.
Modern.az reports that the Iranian Foreign Minister issued a strong statement in response to the views expressed by Lebanese President Joseph Aoun.
The minister stated that Aoun's statements imply that Iran has allegedly occupied one-fifth of Lebanon's territory, forced a quarter of the population to leave their homes, and bombs the country every day.
"If Lebanon were a bargaining chip for Iran, we would have reached an agreement long ago. Mr. President, save Lebanon from your real enemy," the statement said.
Tense statements between the parties were made against the backdrop of the situation in Lebanon and ongoing conflicts in the region.
