Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called the election of an ethnic Turkmen as the head of Iraq's Kirkuk province after nearly a hundred years a significant event.
Modern.az reports with reference to "TRT Haber" that the Turkish President said this while receiving Kirkuk Governor Mehmet Saman Agha.
According to the information, the situation of Turkmens in Iraq was evaluated during the meeting. Erdogan emphasized that the continuation of peace, prosperity and tranquility in Kirkuk is of great importance for the future of Iraq, and in this context, Turkey's support will continue.
Mehmet Saman Agha, who also serves as the chairman of the Iraqi Turkmen Front (ITF, the political union of Iraqi Turkmens), expressed his gratitude to Erdogan for his support to Kirkuk.
It should be noted that a Turkmen governor was elected and approved by the president in Kirkuk after approximately a century.
