India has increased the number of nuclear warheads in the last year.

Modern.az reports that this was stated in the 2026 report of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI).

According to the report, India's number of nuclear warheads increased from 180 in 2025 to 190 in 2026. It is stated that the country continues its activities towards modernizing its nuclear forces.

According to SIPRI, Indian sources claim that at least 12 active nuclear warheads are kept in operational readiness to respond to a possible nuclear attack.

The report also paid special attention to Pakistan's nuclear program. It is noted that Islamabad is improving its existing nuclear delivery systems, and at the same time, developing and testing new nuclear delivery vehicles.

SIPRI experts believe that Pakistan's nuclear potential and the number of nuclear warheads will significantly increase in the next decade. This forecast is reportedly related to the program for the construction of ballistic missile-carrying submarines for the Pakistan Navy.

The report also revealed updated figures on the arsenals of the world's main nuclear states. According to the information, in 2026, Russia has 5,420 nuclear warheads, and the USA has 5,042. China showed an increase with 620 nuclear warheads. France has 370, Great Britain 225, Pakistan 170, Israel 90, and North Korea has approximately 60 nuclear warheads.

According to SIPRI's calculations, although the total number of nuclear warheads in the world decreased from 12,241 in 2025 to 12,187 in 2026, leading states continue to modernize their nuclear forces.
