Messages of regional peace and normalization from Nikol Pashinyan, who was re-appointed prime minister after the parliamentary elections in Armenia, have accelerated the process on the Ankara-Yerevan line.

It was noted that after Pashinyan's positive statements regarding relations with Turkey, attention has focused on the border crossing points planned to be opened between the two countries. Steps that were intended to be implemented before the elections, but were postponed for various reasons, are expected to be brought back to the agenda soon.
According to the information, diplomatic contacts between Ankara and Yerevan have intensified, and concrete steps are planned to be taken in the normalization process.
In the first stage, the Alican border crossing point located in Turkey's Iğdır province is planned to be opened for mutual crossings. It is reported that preparatory work on the Armenian side has already been completed, and the process on the Turkish side is planned to be finalized in a short time.
In this case, mutual crossings and trade by road will be possible during the summer months.
At the same time, work continues towards opening the Akyaka border crossing point located in Turkey's Kars province. With the start of operations of both points, transport and trade relations between Turkey and Armenia are expected to be re-established.
With the opening of the borders, the third country factor in indirect trade, which has been carried out via Georgia for many years, may be eliminated.
Currently, the trade turnover between Turkey and Armenia is estimated to be around 300-350 million dollars. The main share in this turnover consists of ready-made clothing products, chemical industry products, foodstuffs, and unprocessed precious metals.
The start of direct trade can lead to a reduction in logistics costs, faster delivery of products to markets, and an increase in trade volume to 1 billion dollars in a short time.
