Details of a horrific family tragedy that occurred in Mechanicville, New York, USA, have been revealed.
Modern.az reports, citing US media, that although the incident was recorded in June, the police only recently released the information to the public. Law enforcement officers discovered the bodies of six people in the home of 64-year-old Amy Stedman on June 23. According to the information, the bodies remained in the house for approximately two weeks.
All of the deceased were reported to be members of the same family. They included 64-year-old Amy Stedman, her 44-year-old daughter Sara Myers, as well as Myers' four children – 13-year-old Harper, 11-year-old Hudson, and 10-year-old twins Gavin and Gracelynn Harmon.
Based on the initial investigation results, evidence gathered in the house indicates that the woman first poisoned her family members and then took her own life.
Police Chief William Rabbit announced that the incident was an intentional poisoning committed with high doses of prescription and over-the-counter medications. A suicide note was also found in the house.
An internal family dispute over child custody is cited as a possible cause of the incident. According to the information, shortly before the incident, the court granted the children's father the right to visit them for 60 days. It is presumed that the woman tried to prevent her grandchildren from being taken out of their mother's custody.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
