According to a new report prepared by the US Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), the total losses of both sides in the ongoing war in Ukraine have exceeded 2 million people.
Modern.az reports that the study states that the heaviest losses fell to the Russian army. According to experts' calculations, the total losses of the Russian Armed Forces to date amount to approximately 1.4 million people. Of these, 400-450 thousand people are reported to have died in battles.
CSIS analysts Seth C. Jones and Riley McCabe state that "no major power has suffered such heavy human losses in a conflict since World War II."
According to the report, the losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces are estimated to be between 525-625 thousand people. Of these, 125-150 thousand people are reported to have died.
The study notes that despite heavy losses, Russia has not yet been able to achieve a decisive military breakthrough on the front. On the contrary, analysts believe that the Russian army is increasingly approaching the limits of its capabilities.
According to experts' calculations, Russia currently loses 30-34 thousand soldiers every month, although it can recruit approximately 27 thousand new soldiers monthly.
