A meeting was held between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky after the 36th NATO Leaders' Summit.

Modern.az reports that in his statement to the press, Trump said that Ukrainians displaced from their homeland as a result of the war with Russia want to return home.

"We have stopped many wars. But both Putin and this gentleman are people with difficult characters," he said, referring to Zelensky.

Trump also gave strong messages regarding Iran.

"We will most likely hit Iran tonight. If I decide to do so, I will probably give advance warning. We are working on depriving Iran of nuclear weapons. We will hold a meeting. My hope is not regime change. They think they have been the 'frontrunners' of the Middle East for 47 years, but they are not," the US President said.

Speaking about the Russia-Ukraine war, Trump said:

"It's like two kids in a park who don't like each other. Sometimes you have to let them fight. Zelensky has done a good job. There are very brave people in Ukraine. Russia is a very large and powerful armed state. This war can reach a very dangerous stage."

According to him, the differences between the parties are not that big.

"In fact, they can reach an agreement. This is a very difficult war that has ended the lives of thousands of people. I think Putin wants to agree."

The US President noted that he has held talks with both Zelensky and other parties.

"I have made deals my whole life. This is my job and I am good at it. I know both sides want to agree. I believe that after the war, Ukraine will become a country with great potential."

Trump also made claims about Iran's military capabilities.

"Defensive weapons are not offensive weapons. Our aircraft carriers are the most powerful ships in the world. 111 missiles were launched against them and all of them were destroyed. None reached the target. If they had, there would have been serious consequences."

He added:

"When we look at Iran, we see that their air force has been destroyed, they have lost almost everything. A bird whispered this to me."

Trump also criticized Barack Obama's nuclear deal with Iran.

"The nuclear deal with Obama was one of the biggest tragedies in US history. I call it the nuclear waste deal. Our agreement created obstacles, while Obama's agreement opened the way for them."

The President also accused Iran of attacks against US servicemen and stated that Washington's "account with Tehran is not yet closed."

Finally, Trump noted that Putin is under great pressure and the US goal is to save human lives.

"Ukraine is not our problem. But this country has great potential. After the war ends, Ukraine will be in a very good situation," he said.
