US President Donald Trump addressed the nation, claiming that China interfered in the 2020 presidential election.

Modern.az reports with reference to foreign media that, according to Trump, declassified intelligence materials show that Beijing tried to influence the US election process.

The US president stated that the country's election system has been severely damaged and citizens' trust in elections has been shaken.

“Our country has suffered great damage. Our elections have become vulnerable to fraud and theft, and the trust of the American people has been lost. This cannot be allowed. Every American, whether Republican, Democrat, or independent, deserves the most reliable, fairest election system in the world,” Trump emphasized.

In his 25-minute address, Trump said that the released documents would reveal “shocking gaps” in the US election infrastructure.

According to him, the declassified information shows that China illegally gained access to the database of 220 million American voters. Trump claimed that this information included voters' names, addresses, and other personal information used for voter registration.

The US president's statements have led to new political discussions in the country.
