At its meeting on July 21, the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Armenia invalidated the registration of a total of 38 parliamentary candidates due to their renunciation of mandates.
Modern.az reports, citing Armenian media, that those who renounced their mandates represent three political forces that entered parliament.
27 candidates from the ruling "Civil Contract" Party renounced their parliamentary mandates. Among them are Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, Defense Minister Suren Papikyan, Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan, Health Minister Anahit Avanesyan, Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan, former Minister of High-Tech Industry Mkhitar Hayrapetyan, and other prominent government representatives. As a result, 64 parliamentary mandates were given to the party in the National Assembly.
From the opposition "Armenia" bloc, only the leader of the list, former president of the country Robert Kocharyan, renounced his mandate. Other candidates from the bloc will represent him in parliament.
10 candidates from the "Strong Armenia" bloc submitted applications to renounce their parliamentary mandates.
Thus, in the process of forming the 9th convocation of the National Assembly of Armenia, 38 parliamentary candidates voluntarily renounced their mandates, and their places were taken by the next candidates on the electoral lists. This decision was officially confirmed by the CEC.
