The US Treasury Department has extended for another month a special license allowing negotiations for the sale of foreign assets of the Russian oil company "Lukoil".
Modern.az reports that, according to the new permit, negotiations on the possible sale, alienation or other transfer of Lukoil's international assets can continue until September 19.
However, the sale of the assets themselves is not allowed during the specified period without a separate permit.
The US had previously included "Lukoil" and "Rosneft", as well as a number of their subsidiaries, in the sanctions list. After that, a temporary license was issued to facilitate negotiations with potential buyers for the sale of Lukoil's foreign assets, and its term was extended several times.
It is reported that US company Chevron, Carlyle Group, as well as funds from the UAE and Saudi Arabia are interested in Lukoil's foreign assets. Although the company initially agreed to sell its assets to the Swiss trader Gunvor, the US side did not allow the deal.
It should be noted that "Lukoil" is one of the largest oil companies in Russia, owned by the Russian billionaire of Azerbaijani origin Vahid Alakbarov. Alakbarov remains the main shareholder of the company.
The new US decision allows negotiations on the future fate of Lukoil's international assets to continue for another month.
