Brazilian football legend Ronaldinho has joined “Ravenna” club, which plays in the third division of Italy. The 46-year-old footballer was presented to fans with a magnificent presentation ceremony in Ravenna on Thursday.
Modern.az reports with reference to “ESPN” that approximately 6,000 fans greeted Ronaldinho, the club's new number 10 player, at the presentation ceremony. Despite the rainy weather, fans showed great enthusiasm for the football legend with flags and torches in their hands.
Ronaldinho arrived at Forli airport near Ravenna in the afternoon by private jet. After signing several footballs for the airport staff, he went to the city with club president Ignazio Cipriani.
At the press conference, Ronaldinho expressed his satisfaction with being in “Ravenna”:
“I am very happy to be here with my friends. But let's wait and see how things go in the team.”
It is not yet known when he will appear on the field. Ronaldinho laughed at this question, saying, “I feel good,” and added that it depends on the coach and the club president.
Ronaldinho will not participate in “Ravenna”'s first Serie C game of the season. Club president Cipriani said that he wished the Brazilian would score his last professional goal for “Ravenna”.
Ronaldinho replied:
“If so, it would be even better. I came here for our friendship. Let's wait and see how the team performs. I am here to help.”
Ronaldinho last wore the “Fluminense” jersey in his professional career in 2015. He previously left his mark in Italian football by playing for “Milan” club between 2008 and 2011.
Ronaldinho, who became a world champion with the Brazilian national team in 2002, won the “Golden Ball” award in 2005. His transfer to “Ravenna” was marked by his return to Italian fields 11 years after professional football.
