Iran has announced that it could impose a full naval blockade around the Strait of Hormuz if the US continues its economic pressure against Tehran.
Modern.az reports that this was stated by Mohsen Rezaei, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council. According to him, Washington's economic war will face Iran's response.
“In recent days, Washington has been openly warned about Iran's new missiles. In response to the economic war, a maritime exclusion zone will be created along the Persian Gulf, and this will be extended to the perimeter of the blockade. The operational strategy regarding US ships and military bases has been fundamentally revised,” Rezaei wrote on the social network “X”.
Iran's Foreign Ministry said on Monday that Tehran has the right to take measures to protect its interests in the face of the naval blockade and sanctions imposed by the US.
It should be noted that Washington launched an operation called “Economic Isolation” in August. The aim of the operation is to strengthen Tehran's financial isolation and force Iran to back down on the conflict.
In early September, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that the European Union had also joined the economic pressure campaign against Iran.
The increasing tension in the Strait of Hormuz also poses a serious risk to the global energy market. The strait is one of the main routes for world energy transportation, and the restrictions that have arisen there in recent days are affecting oil supplies.
