A scandal erupted at the VI World Nomad Games held in Kyrgyzstan.
Modern.az reports that at the end of the VI World Nomad Games, a disagreement arose between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan regarding the medal count.
According to the initial calculations of the Kyrgyz side, the Kyrgyz team took first place in the competitions. Kyrgyzstan won a total of 72 medals, including 30 gold, 29 silver, and 13 bronze. Kazakhstan was shown as second with 64 medals (29 gold, 16 silver, and 19 bronze), and Russia as third with 34 medals (7 gold, 7 silver, and 20 bronze). However, Kazakhstan's Ministry of Tourism and Sports calculated the medals differently. According to the Ministry, Kazakh athletes won 74 medals, including 32 gold, 20 silver, and 22 bronze.
After this, the medal table published by Kyrgyzstan's state agency "Kabar" was removed from the website. Kyrgyzstan's State Agency for Physical Culture and Sports stated that the concept of the Nomad Games does not provide for an official medal count by country. Askat Alagozov, the press secretary of the President of Kyrgyzstan, also made a statement on the matter. He later announced that Kazakhstan was the winner in the medal standings.
"Today, the organizing committee decided to separately consider the medals of three Kazakh athletes. Thus, Kazakhstan took first place in the overall team standings. We congratulate our Kazakh brothers on their victory," Alagozov said on September 7.
It should be noted that the next World Nomad Games are planned to be held in Kazan, Russia, in 2028.
