According to the information, Ceferin would definitely have participated in the final game under normal circumstances. However, he refused to travel in protest of the lifting of the disqualification of US national team striker Folarin Balogun.
The publication notes that this incident has seriously strained relations between FIFA and UEFA. Dissatisfaction with political interference in the course of the tournament has been expressed within UEFA.
It should be recalled that Balogun was sent off in the 1/16 final match of the 2026 World Cup against the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team and was given a one-match ban. After the red card was canceled, the player's disqualification was also lifted, and Balogun was able to play in the next round of the play-off stage against the Belgian national team.
