These individuals will be granted a deferment from military service for education

The terms for deferment from military service to continue education in Azerbaijan are changing. 

Modern.az reports that this is reflected in an amendment to the Law "On Military Duty and Military Service". 

According to the amendment, the following conscripts studying in educational institutions and their branches, scientific institutions and organizations, which are state-registered, licensed, and accredited in the Republic of Azerbaijan or foreign countries, regardless of their ownership and organizational-legal form, are granted a deferment only once per educational stage (each level of the educational stage) to continue their education:

21.1.1. those receiving full secondary education in general education institutions – until the age of 20;
21.1.2. conscripts studying in vocational education institutions who have not received full secondary education before entering these institutions – until the age of 20;
21.1.3. conscripts studying in secondary specialized education institutions who have not received full secondary education before entering these institutions – until the age of 21;  
21.1.4. those studying in bachelor's degree programs in full-time education – until the completion of their respective education, but not exceeding 24 years of age (excluding conscripts mentioned in Article 21.8 of this Law);
21.1.5. those studying in master's degree programs in full-time education – until the completion of their respective education, but not exceeding 26 years of age (excluding conscripts mentioned in Article 21.8 of this Law);
21.1.6. those studying in basic (higher) medical education level and residency programs in full-time education – until the completion of their education; 
21.1.7. those studying in doctoral (adjunct) programs in full-time education – until the completion of their education;
21.1.8. conscripts who successfully pass the first entrance examination for doctoral (adjunct) programs - for a period of 3 months.
21.2. Conscripts who complete the relevant educational stage (level) are granted a deferment for a period of 3 months from the date of completion of the previous educational stage (level) to participate in entrance examinations for bachelor's or master's levels of higher education.

If conscripts do not submit the official document regarding their education to the p (institution) determined by the relevant executive authority by the month they are called up, they are called for fixed-term active military service on general grounds.

21.4. Conscripts who have been granted a deferment from call-up for fixed-term active military service to continue their education, and who refuse the granted deferment, are called for fixed-term active military service on general grounds.
21.5. Persons expelled from higher education institutions lose their right to deferment from call-up if they are not reinstated to a higher education institution within 6 months, and are called for fixed-term active military service on general grounds.
21.6. The period of academic leave granted to conscripts according to the rules determined by the p (institution) specified by the relevant executive authority is taken into account not more than once for each educational stage (level) and is not included in the deferment period granted for call-up for fixed-term active military service to continue education.
21.7. Conscripts who have been granted a deferment from call-up for fixed-term active military service to continue their education and have not been called for fixed-term active military service are called for fixed-term active military service until they reach the age of 30.
21.8. Conscripts studying within the framework of intergovernmental scholarship programs for student exchange based on state programs and international agreements signed between the p (institution) determined by the relevant executive authority and the competent authorities of foreign countries are granted a deferment until the completion of their education.
21.9. Conscripts who complete the relevant educational stage (level) are granted a deferment for a period of 6 months from the date of completion of the previous educational stage (level) to participate in entrance examinations for bachelor's, master's, or doctoral (adjunct) levels of higher education within the framework of intergovernmental scholarship programs for student exchange based on state programs and international agreements signed between the p (institution) determined by the relevant executive authority and the competent authorities of foreign countries.
