President Ilham Aliyev sent a congratulatory letter to Pope Leo XIV.
Modern.az reports that the letter says:
"Your Holiness,
On the occasion of your Coronation Day, I sincerely congratulate you and, in your person, all your co-religionists, on my own behalf and on behalf of the people of Azerbaijan.
It is gratifying that the relations between Azerbaijan and the Holy See, based on mutual respect and understanding, are developing along an upward trend and gaining new content day by day. These relations serve good intentions such as promoting interreligious harmony and cultural diversity in the world, and creating an environment of mutual trust between civilizations.
In Azerbaijan, known as one of the addresses of multiculturalism in the world, ethnic and religious diversity is protected as a national treasure, and equal conditions are created for all confessions. We are proud that Azerbaijan is a place where people of different religions and beliefs live in an atmosphere of kindness and mutual understanding. The laying of the foundation of a new Catholic church in Baku is another clear example of interreligious harmony, multiculturalism and traditions of tolerance in our country.
I would like to specifically mention the fruitful cooperation that has developed over the years between the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Holy See. The restoration work carried out in the Vatican with the support of the Foundation contributes to intercultural dialogue, the preservation of religious and cultural heritage, and is an indicator of Azerbaijan's commitment to universal values.
Your Holiness,
I highly appreciate your contribution to the development of sincere dialogue and cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Holy See. I am confident that our bilateral relations will continue to strengthen and deepen in the future for the promotion of universal values and inter-civilizational understanding.
On such a remarkable day, I wish you robust health, a long life, and constant success in your high and sacred mission."
