Belgian and Dutch MPs are politically illiterate.
Modern.az reports that MP Erkin Gadirli stated this at today's plenary session of the Milli Majlis.
The MP noted that as a member of the working group on inter-parliamentary relations between Belgium and the Netherlands, he has been part of delegations and has also made solo visits to these countries. He has been in close contact with their MPs in regional parliaments, federal parliaments, and PACE.
“We have always witnessed the same communication and the same attitude from both the government and the opposition. This resolution was also adopted unanimously. This fact in itself reveals certain points. There are deeper layers to the issue, but without touching on them too much, it is possible to evaluate the superficial reasons within a general framework of consciousness. This demonstrates that the biased attitude towards Azerbaijan is clearly manifested by the confusion of terminology and concepts.”
E. Gadirli emphasized that currently there are individuals in Azerbaijan against whom there is a decision of the first instance court, although a judgment has not yet entered into legal force, and the process continues in a legal manner. However, these separatist and terrorist Armenian individuals are sometimes presented as “political prisoners” and in other cases as “prisoners of war.”
“In some resolutions, we see that these concepts are confused, with “prisoner of war” used in one place within the same document, and different terms used elsewhere.”
He noted that from a legal point of view, this primarily indicates that such an approach is unprofessional and far from legal grounds. Because none of these concepts can be applied to the individuals currently detained in Azerbaijan.
“We are talking about individuals who have committed specific crimes and are accused for this reason. On the other hand, the issue of territorial integrity and sovereignty also plays a key role here. We have never observed that during the period when Azerbaijani territories were under occupation, the issue of Armenian cultural heritage was highlighted in this way in the context of defending our territorial integrity and borders,” he emphasized.
