Russian authorities have settled on a new candidate to lead the Union of Armenians of Russia (UAR), one of Russia's largest diaspora organizations.
Modern.az reports that Armenia's "Past" newspaper published this information.
According to the information, official Moscow is currently considering the candidacy of the well-known Russian surgeon of Armenian origin, academician Armais Kamalov for the post of chairman of the organization.
The publication states that serious dissatisfaction has arisen in the Russian leadership with the current administration of the UAR. The main reason for the dissatisfaction is cited as the organization's insufficient integration with the Armenian community and its lack of necessary influence during election processes. It is believed that the current leadership is unable to effectively utilize the potential of the diaspora.
The newspaper notes that the candidacy of academician Armais Kamalov is not accidental. He enjoys high prestige both in Russia and Armenia. In addition to his successes in the field of medicine, Kamalov has been actively involved for many years in the implementation of various humanitarian and cultural programs aimed at preserving Armenian identity.
According to experts, this possible appointment aims to strengthen Russia's control over the Armenian diaspora and give new impetus to the organization's activities.
