The import of animals suspected of zoonotic diseases from Georgia to Azerbaijan has been prevented.
The Azerbaijan Food Safety Agency (AFSA) informed Modern.az about this.
It was reported that on May 12, a total of 134 live cattle intended for slaughter, which were planned to be imported from Georgia's "Universal Business Company", underwent clinical examination at the "Red Bridge" Food Safety Control Point in accordance with the requirements of the normative legal acts in force.
During the clinical examination, suspicious symptoms were found in two animals. Specifically, a weakening of the general condition, persistent balance disorders, and a higher than normal temperature (40.5 and 40°C) were detected in the animals.
The noted clinical signs are symptoms of infectious or other diseases in animals, which is considered risky from a safety perspective.
Considering the existing risks, the import of the animals into the country was not allowed, and the entire consignment was returned.
It should be recalled that on May 5 of the current year, AFSA also prevented the import of animals suspected of zoonotic diseases into the country. The Agency warns companies engaged in the import of live animals from Georgia to carry out existing procedures during import. Otherwise, measures provided by law will be taken against these companies, and restrictions on import will be applied.
