Lord Tariq Ahmad of Wimbledon, a member of the UK House of Lords, gave an exclusive statement to Modern.az within the framework of the Azerbaijan International Investment Forum (AIIF 2026) held in Baku.
In his speech, he drew attention to the peace process in the region, the opening of markets and the prospects of regional transport and communication corridors:
“It is very gratifying to participate in the opening session of the Forum and to hear about the progress made in opening markets. In the panel discussions I attended earlier, I specifically touched upon the issue of resolving the conflict with Armenia. I believe that the geopolitical conflict and the tension between the two neighboring states have hindered the development of both Azerbaijan and Armenia for many years.”
He noted that the steps taken towards resolving the conflict are the most significant progress.
"This morning, in the session, we listened to the minister's presentation about integration and connecting routes from Asia, South Asia through Central Asia. It is gratifying that Armenia is also valued as part of this great vision - establishing transport links with the Middle East and South Asia, as well as implementing joint infrastructure projects with neighboring countries and partners. The full resolution of the conflict and the ideas expressed in this direction are of extremely great strategic importance," he said.
