"WhatsApp" is testing a new paid subscription model for users.
Modern.az reports that "TechCrunch" platform has released information about this.
This package, called "WhatsApp Plus", mainly focuses on personalizing the appearance of the application and does not offer significant functional innovations.
According to the information, the new subscription allows users to change icons, chat designs, notification sounds and other visual elements. In addition, while it is only possible to "pin" 3 chats in the free version, Plus subscribers will be able to increase this limit to 20. At the same time, it will be possible to create different chat lists and distinguish them with individual designs.
"Meta" company stated that this step aims to enable users to better organize and personalize the application. It is noted that the function is currently being tested among small user groups and feedback is being collected. Although no official statement has been made regarding the price, according to preliminary information, the subscription may be around 2.49 euros in Europe and 229 PKR (approximately 0.82 dollars) in the Pakistani market. It is also reported that users will be offered a 1-month free trial.
It should be noted that WhatsApp had previously implemented an annual $1 subscription in some regions, but this model was abandoned in 2016. In recent years, the platform has generated its main revenue from business messaging and advertisements. According to the company's statement, WhatsApp's annual revenue has already exceeded $2 billion.
