President Ilham Aliyev's visit to Uzbekistan has led to a new stage in strategic partnership between the two countries. It is expected that this visit and the further elevation of relations between the two countries will also positively impact the trade turnover between them. Economic, investment, trade, and logistics-transit issues were at the forefront in several meetings. An Investment Fund was also established between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan to invest in mutually interesting projects.

Speaking to Modern.az on the matter, Vugar Bayramov, a member of the Economic Policy, Industry, and Entrepreneurship Committee of the Milli Majlis, stated that the Azerbaijani President's visit to Uzbekistan will significantly impact the start of a new stage in economic relations and further increase in trade turnover between the two countries:

“Strategic relations between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan directly affect economic ties and trade turnover. In 2025, trade turnover between the two countries increased 3.2 times, reaching 795 million dollars. Naturally, the main weight here falls on imports from Uzbekistan. Uzbekistan has a positive balance in trade relations with Azerbaijan. The main goal is to achieve a trade turnover of 1 billion dollars. Mr. President's visit to Uzbekistan will open a new page in economic relations between the two countries. This will also directly affect trade turnover. Because strengthening cooperation between entrepreneurs in various sectors and expanding mutual product exchange is expected. Uzbekistan is a country that produces and exports both industrial and agricultural products. Azerbaijan also exports a number of oil refining products, in addition to industrial products. In this regard, mutual import and export opportunities in the non-oil sector are quite extensive.”

The economist noted that there is great potential for expanding cooperation between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, especially in the food and processing industries:

“Approximately half of Azerbaijan's exports to Uzbekistan consist of sugar products. This indicates a high demand for processed food products in Uzbekistan. Azerbaijan can provide greater support to Uzbekistan in the supply of these products and bring a wider range of food products to this country's market. Expanding cooperation in this direction can significantly contribute to increasing mutual trade. All this shows that the target of 1 billion dollars in trade turnover will be achieved in a shorter period. This will not only increase the trade turnover between the countries but also allow for further deepening of Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan strategic relations.”
