Modern.az reports that approximately one-third of the world's population lives in India and China. These two countries have a combined population of approximately 2.89 billion people.
India is the world's most populous country with over 1.47 billion people. China ranks second with approximately 1.41 billion people. While India's population continues to grow, China's population is decreasing.
The United States ranks third in terms of population. Approximately 349 million people live in the country. Thus, China's population is approximately four times larger than that of the United States.
The top five also include Indonesia with 287.9 million people and Pakistan with 259.3 million people.
Other countries with a population of over 200 million are Nigeria and Brazil. Nigeria has 242.4 million people, and Brazil has 213.6 million people.
Bangladesh ranks eighth on the list with a population of 177.8 million people.
Russia is in ninth place with a population of approximately 146 million people. This is stated in the data of the Russian State Statistics Committee.
Ethiopia completes the top ten most populous countries in the world. Approximately 138.9 million people live in the country.
