The Iranian delegation waited for the permission of Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei for talks with the US and received it on the evening of April 20.

Modern.az reports that Axios reported this, citing its source.

According to the publication, the White House was waiting for a signal from Tehran that the Iranian delegation was ready to participate in the talks. Mediators from Pakistan, Egypt and Turkey also called on the Iranians to participate in the meeting.

However, according to the source, the Iranian side was delaying amid pressure from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (SEPAH), which demanded the delegation take a tougher stance and opposed negotiations without an end to the US naval blockade.

Three Axios sources said that Vice President J.D. Vance, who led the US delegation in the first round, should fly to Islamabad for the meeting.
