American billionaire and entrepreneur Elon Musk stated that the declining birth rate in the world poses a serious threat to the future of humanity. Modern.az reports that he wrote about this on "X".
"Humanity is disappearing," Musk posted.
He made this comment while discussing a post about the sharp decline in Singapore's birth rate. X user "Freeze" drew attention to the demographic situation in the country, writing that the total fertility rate had fallen to a record low of 0.87 children in 2025.
According to official Singaporean data, the preliminary total fertility rate for 2025 in the country was indeed 0.87. This figure is even lower than 0.97 in 2024.
The total fertility rate expresses the average number of children a woman would bear during her reproductive years if current birth rates remained unchanged. A level of approximately 2.1 is typically required for simple population replacement.
The Singaporean government is implementing measures such as financial support for families, extended parental leave, increased housing opportunities, and subsidies for childcare services to increase the birth rate. Country officials consider the low birth rate a long-term demographic problem.
Musk has previously described the low birth rate as one of the long-term risks for humanity.
