Armenia's second president, war criminal Robert Kocharyan, and his eldest son Sedrak Kocharyan have been detained. This was reported by the Anti-Corruption Committee of Armenia.
Modern.az, citing Armenian media, reports that earlier it was announced that law enforcement agencies had been conducting searches at several addresses of Robert Kocharyan and his family members since the morning.
The Anti-Corruption Committee of Armenia stated in its announcement that within the framework of a criminal case being investigated in connection with corruption-related crimes, searches and other procedural measures are being carried out at several dozen addresses across the country. The Committee did not disclose additional information regarding the specific direction of the investigation and the charges brought against the detained persons.
In the morning, it was reported that law enforcement officers had entered the home of Robert Kocharyan's son, Levon Kocharyan, a deputy of the opposition “Armenia” faction in parliament, and conducted a search there. Armenian media reported that masked officers participated in that operation.
Later, information spread that Levon Kocharyan had also been taken to the National Security Service. Official bodies did not disclose additional details regarding which criminal case the search at his home was conducted within the framework of.
It is reported that law enforcement measures were also carried out at facilities associated with the Kocharyan family. According to Armenian media, the Yerevan office of the “Toyota” company linked to the family was sealed, and investigative and procedural measures were also carried out at the “Orange Fitness” sports complex.
