US Secretary of State Marco Rubio conveyed a message from Russian leader Vladimir Putin to President Donald Trump. The message was voiced during Rubio's conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
Modern.az reports that Rubio told reporters that after a phone conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, he informed US President Donald Trump about the steps taken by the Russian side.
According to Rubio, Russian President Vladimir Putin asked the foreign minister to call the US Secretary of State and convey the message directly to the American president.
“I did that. But of course, we have already seen the notifications sent to all diplomatic missions,” he said.
“They sent notifications to all embassies. I think Lavrov just wanted to call me personally and inform me about this. They warned all embassies that the situation in Kyiv would be very dangerous,” said Marco Rubio, adding that “it has been very dangerous in Kyiv for several years now.”
The US Secretary of State tried to downplay the significance of reports that Russia called on the US to evacuate embassy staff due to the threat of possible strikes in Kyiv. He emphasized that long-term wars always create a risk of escalation.
“The danger of such wars is that as they continue, there is always a risk of increased tension,” said Marco Rubio.
Previously, according to reports, Sergey Lavrov warned about possible Russian strikes on Kyiv during the conversation and advised American diplomats to leave some facilities. In Russia, this was linked to attacks by Ukrainian drones on their territory, while in Kyiv, such statements are considered a means of pressure in negotiations.
