High-ranking European officials have congratulated Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on his victory in the parliamentary elections and conveyed a message of further expanding cooperation with Yerevan.
Modern.az reports that European Council President Antonio Costa shared a post on the social network X, stating that the Armenian people have chosen the path of peace, stability, and cooperation with neighbors.
“The Armenian people have voted for a future built on peace, stability, and stronger cooperation with their neighbors, as well as with the world,” Costa noted.
He stated that Pashinyan has played a significant role in strengthening Armenia's resilience, stability, and prosperity.
“You can be proud of the role you have played in strengthening Armenia's resilience, stability, and prosperity. The EU and Armenia together are strengthening ties between people, creating new opportunities in energy, trade, and digitalization. Our strong partnership is an investment in a more peaceful and prosperous future for the region,” the President of the European Council emphasized.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen also congratulated Pashinyan, highlighting Armenia's rapprochement with Europe.
“The spirit of the Velvet Revolution you led in 2018 lives on and is strong. We greatly value our partnership with a democratic Armenia that is increasingly closer to Europe,” von der Leyen stated.
She added that Armenia can count on the support of the European Union.
European Parliament President Roberta Metsola also congratulated Pashinyan on his election victory.
“I congratulate you, Nikol Pashinyan, on your victory in the national elections in Armenia. Let's work on this new dynamic to further strengthen EU-Armenia relations,” Metsola wrote in her post.
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas stated that the Armenian people have made a pro-European choice despite pressure from Russia.
“It seems that the Armenian people, despite serious pressure from Russia, have chosen a European future, and this is a good thing. We are also trying to support their future reforms as much as possible,” Kallas noted.
European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos assessed the choice of the Armenian people as support for the country's sovereignty and European course.
“In the context of large-scale Russian pressure and interference, this victory confirms the Armenian people's choice for a strong, sovereign, and independent Armenia,” Marta Kos stated.
The Eurocommissioner emphasized that she plans to visit Armenia soon and that EU-Armenia cooperation will enter a new phase.
It should be noted that, according to the results announced by the Central Election Commission of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan's
