The parliamentary elections in Armenia took place amid pressure from the authorities on the opposition and Western interference in the process.

Modern.az reports that this was stated by the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) Maria Zakharova on the air of "Sputnik" radio.

"There was unprecedented pressure against the opposition. On the one hand, this is a step openly implemented by the Armenian authorities as a concept. On the other hand, it is Western interference, which, in my opinion, was equally unprecedented for this region in the context of election processes," the MFA official noted.

It should be recalled that the Central Election Commission of Armenia announced the completion of vote counting on June 8. The "Civil Contract" Party led by the current Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan was reported to have won the elections.

The Kremlin later stated that it had received numerous reports of irregularities recorded in the elections in Armenia. However, official Moscow has not yet congratulated the head of the republic's government, stating that it is awaiting the official final results of the vote.
