The World Bank plans to completely stop lending to the People's Republic of China by 2031.

Modern.az reports, citing foreign media, that in recent years there has already been a sharp decrease in the volume of borrowed funds allocated to Beijing by this international financial institution. Thus, the volume of annual loans given to China has decreased from $2.4 billion in 2017 to $750 million in 2025.

This strategic decision by the World Bank is directly related to China's new global status, having already become the world's second-largest economy.

Official Washington, one of the main donors and managers of the financial institution, welcomed this step. US officials have stated that Beijing, due to its economic power, has already moved out of the status of a developing country, and therefore should not receive development-oriented financial aid or concessional loans from international institutions.

It should be noted that the World Bank had previously applied a similar decision to Poland, which showed high economic growth indicators. This new suspension plan for China is expected to be discussed and officially approved by the World Bank's Board of Directors in July of this year.
