In the first half of 2026, the largest share of remittances sent from Georgia abroad fell to Azerbaijan.
Modern.az reports with reference to the National Bank of Georgia that a total of 212.8 million US dollars were transferred from the country abroad in January-June. This is 111.7 percent more than in the same period last year.
According to the information, the main destination of funds sent abroad was Azerbaijan. During the reporting period, 36.5 million dollars were transferred from Georgia to Azerbaijan, which means an increase of 75.3 percent compared to the previous year.
With this indicator, Azerbaijan became the country to which the most money transfers from Georgia were directed. Turkey (33.8 million dollars) and Russia (26.1 million dollars) ranked next.
At the same time, the volume of money transfers to Georgia also increased. In the first six months of this year, 1.9 billion dollars were received from abroad, which is 4 percent more than in the corresponding period last year.
In June, money transfers to Georgia increased by 10.4 percent year-on-year, reaching 348.26 million dollars. The largest funds came from the USA. The volume of transfers sent from the USA amounted to 66.2 million dollars. Italy ranked second with 54.18 million dollars, and Russia ranked third with 51.42 million dollars.
Experts believe that the expansion of economic ties, trade turnover and labor migration between Azerbaijan and Georgia affects the increase of mutual financial flows.
