The formation of voter lists in Azerbaijan is the responsibility of relevant state bodies, not citizens.
Modern.az reports that this was stated by CEC Chairman Mazahir Panahov at the meeting of the Central Election Commission dedicated to the results of the compilation and clarification of the unified voter list for the country.
He stated that special attention is paid to ensuring the right of citizens to elect and be elected in Azerbaijan.
The CEC chairman noted that the process of preparing and updating voter lists has been carried out by state bodies for many years:
“There is no completely ideal voter list in the world. This is because changes occur in the lists due to people dying and other reasons. This is a constantly updated and dynamic process. The prepared document will be considered an official document, but it is possible to make changes in the subsequent stage as well.”
M. Panahov also added that one of the main issues is the removal of the names of deceased persons from the voter lists by lower election commissions and the CEC in a short period of time.
