The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan has issued a statement regarding the Georgian Patriarchate's statement on the Kurmuk temple located in our country.
Modern.az was informed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that the recent statement of the Georgian Patriarchate regarding the Kurmuk temple located in the territory of Azerbaijan contradicts the spirit of friendship, partnership and good neighborly relations existing between Azerbaijan and Georgia.
The statement said that it is unacceptable to present geographical and historical toponyms located in Azerbaijan under other names.
“Azerbaijan has always respected the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia. At the same time, the Georgian side's display of the same attitude towards the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan forms an important basis for the strategic partnership relations formed between the two countries.
Precisely from this point of view, the approach of the Georgian Patriarchate, which contains territorial claims in relation to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan, is not understandable.
It is important for religious institutions to refrain from approaches that could harm the historical friendship and good neighborly relations formed between the Azerbaijani and Georgian peoples over centuries.
In this regard, it is not recommended for the Georgian Patriarchate to repeat the known approaches of the Armenian church and follow its path.
_nAll historical, cultural and religious monuments existing in the territory of Azerbaijan are an integral part of the national heritage of the Azerbaijani people and the Azerbaijani state,” the statement said.
