Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa will visit Germany.
Modern.az referring to foreign media, reports that Stefan Cornelius, the official representative of the government in Berlin, provided information on this matter. It was stated that German Chancellor Friedrich Merz will receive the Syrian president on Monday.
It was noted that this is Ahmed al-Sharaa's first visit to Germany since coming to power in Syria.
According to the information, although the visit was initially planned for January, it was postponed at the request of the Syrian side. The reason for this was the tension that arose between Syrian forces and the Syrian Democratic Forces during that period. Later, an agreement was reached between the parties.
Within the framework of the visit, an exchange of views is expected to take place regarding Germany's policy on accelerating the process of returning Syrian refugees to their countries.
It should be noted that in recent years, approximately one million Syrians have sought refuge in Germany. A large portion of them went to Germany in 2015–2016, fleeing the war in their country.
