Since the beginning of the war, the number of ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz has decreased by more than 95%.

Modern.az reports this based on ship tracking data from the London Stock Exchange Group and Kpler.

It was noted that between February 28 and April 12, only 279 ships passed through the strait. However, before the conflict, the daily average was approximately 100 ships.

Despite the ceasefire between the US and Iran, which came into force on April 8, the situation has not stabilized. Thus, after that date, only 45 ships entered or exited the strait.

Experts say that as a result of the war, hundreds of tankers and other cargo ships remained idle in the Gulf waters. This has led to an approximately 20% reduction in global oil and gas supplies and is considered one of the largest energy supply disruptions in recent years.

In addition, the fighting has also hit energy infrastructure in the Gulf region. As a result, oil prices in world markets have increased by approximately 50% since the beginning of the war. Among the most affected are large energy importers from Asian countries.

According to Kpler, since the beginning of the conflict, 22 ships have been attacked in the Strait of Hormuz and surrounding waters. The geography of the attacks is wide: 8 in UAE waters, 6 in Oman, 2 in each of Iraq and Qatar waters, and 1 incident in each of Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Iran waters.
