US President Donald Trump has instructed his team to prepare for a long-term naval blockade against Iran.
Modern.az reports, citing the Wall Street Journal, that in recent consultations, Trump decided to continue pressure on the Iranian economy and oil exports, and to blockade the country's ports.
According to the US president, other options - resuming strikes or withdrawing from the conflict - pose greater risks. The newspaper notes that continuing the blockade prolongs the conflict, which leads to an increase in energy prices, negatively affects Trump's ratings, and further weakens the Republican Party's prospects in the midterm elections.
At the current stage, Trump is satisfied with the indefinite blockade of Iranian ports, and in his opinion, this step leads to Tehran's "collapse."
In addition, US intelligence is investigating Iran's reaction if Donald Trump declares that the US has won the war. The goal is to assess the consequences of a possible US withdrawal from the conflict.
