The long-awaited "picture-in-picture" function for YouTube users is now being gradually rolled out worldwide.
Modern.az reports that the "Engadget" platform has published information about this.
It states that this innovation covers both Android and iOS users, and most importantly, a Premium subscription is no longer required to use this function.
According to the company's statement, the function will be gradually added to all users' accounts in the coming months. Once active, users will be able to continue watching the video even if they exit the application by moving the video to a small window. To do this, simply exit the application. The video will automatically continue to play as a mini-player in the corner of the screen.
This feature was first introduced in the US for Premium users. In 2018 on Android, and in 2021 on iOS. Later it became available to all users in the US. Now YouTube is expanding this experience globally. However, certain restrictions remain. For free users, the "picture-in-picture" function will only work for long-form and non-music videos. Premium subscribers will also be able to watch music videos in PiP mode.
