NATO's European allies are rapidly strengthening logistical and other support measures in the face of a possible confrontation around Iran.
Modern.az reports that NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said this to journalists within the framework of the VIII European Political Community Summit held in Armenia.
He added that a number of the alliance's members in Europe have actively started implementing military cooperation agreements concluded with the US.
At the same time, Spain, despite being a NATO member, announced that it would not allow the use of military bases located on its territory for the purpose of war against Iran.
Rutte noted that other NATO countries – Montenegro, Croatia, Romania, Portugal, Greece, Italy, Great Britain, France and Germany are fulfilling requests for the use of military bases and providing additional logistical support.
“More and more European countries are deploying necessary logistical means, including mine-sweeping vessels, in areas close to the possible operational zone, so that they are ready for the next stage,” the NATO Secretary General said.
"The US has recently openly expressed its dissatisfaction with its allies in Europe. European countries have already understood the message of US President Donald Trump and are taking steps towards fulfilling bilateral agreements with Washington regarding military bases.
Currently, they are monitoring the implementation of bilateral agreements signed with the US regarding the deployment of military bases,” Rutte added.
The NATO Secretary General also stated that Donald Trump's decision to withdraw 5,000 American troops from Germany was also related to the US's dissatisfaction with its partners in Europe.
