Great Britain and France will host defense ministers from various countries tomorrow to discuss military plans aimed at restoring trade flow in the Strait of Hormuz.
Modern.az reports that the British government made a statement about this.
The statement of the UK Ministry of Defense says:
“Defense Minister John Healey MP will co-chair the first meeting of defense ministers of the multilateral mission with his French counterpart, Minister Catherine Vautrin. More than 40 countries will participate in the meeting.”
It should be noted that yesterday, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Qaribabadi called on Great Britain and France to refrain from sending warships to the Strait of Hormuz.
Britain announced on Saturday that the HMS Dragon warship had been sent to the Middle East. Official London presented this as a “completely defensive” plan aimed at supporting mine clearance operations and protecting ships.
Last week, the French Ministry of Armed Forces also announced that the country's aircraft carrier strike group had been deployed to the Red Sea as part of a possible mission plan aimed at ensuring the security of the Strait of Hormuz.
Britain and France are leading an initiative to form an international mission to ensure the safety of shipping in the region and are calling on other partner countries to join this mission.
Defense Minister John Healey said:
“I have given instructions for HMS Dragon to be sent to the Middle East so that Britain is ready to support this mission when needed.”
