European countries may face a drug shortage due to increasing tensions around Iran and the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

Modern.az reports with reference to "La Tribune" newspaper that this is due to the disruption of supply chains in the pharmaceutical industry, as Europe is 80 percent dependent on China and India in this area, and stability in the industry has been disrupted in those countries due to rising oil and gas prices.

Delays in aviation routes in the Middle East and Asia also negatively affect the situation.

"Other delivery options are also available, but their cost is higher, and the supply chains of a number of substances are so complex that this can gradually lead to shortages," said Deniz Unal, a representative of the "CEPII" economic research center.

In addition, the publication stated that many components, including ethylene, urea and paraffin, come directly from the Persian Gulf countries.

According to "Coface" insurance company, first of all, paracetamol and a number of antibiotics are at risk.
