US President Donald Trump's administration will inform NATO allies that Washington intends to reduce the military force reserves it can allocate to assist alliance countries in the event of a possible attack.

Modern.az reports that “Reuters” agency spread information about this, citing three informed sources.

According to the sources, a Pentagon representative is preparing to announce this decision at the meeting of NATO defense ministers to be held in Brussels on May 22. It is reported that the decision was formed after Donald Trump's numerous statements that European countries should allocate more funds for their security.

Currently, according to the model applied within NATO, member countries of the alliance determine military reserve forces that can be used in case of conflict or major crisis. The number and composition of these forces are kept confidential. According to “Reuters”, the US plans to significantly reduce that reserve.

Elbridge Colby, head of the Pentagon's policy department, said that European allies will take the main role in the use of conventional armed forces. The US, on the other hand, will retain the possibility of using its nuclear arsenal for the defense of NATO allies.
